AERIAL POWERLINE INSPECTION
GENERAL INTRODUCTION
Electricity is the foundation of modern social development. Timely and effective powerline inspection is very important to ensure grid security. There were numbers of challenges and difficulties during power line inspection in the past years: long transmission line, time-consuming procedures etc. Consequently, the inspection efficiency was low, the workers were placed in higher risks. In response to the above pain points, MMCUAV develops the automatic power lines inspection system with UAV.

STEPS
· POWER LINE POINT CLOUD MODELING
MMCUAV uses airborne Lidar to plot point cloud model for the transmission line. With the detailed 3D model, the drone can safely reach every corner and every angle of the tower without worrying about crash into power lines.


· 3D MISSION ROUTE PLANNING
After the transmission line 3D point cloud model is created, a 3-axis drone flight plan can be generated. The plan contains not only the flying route, but also the hover points and shooting angle as well.
· AUTOMATIC MISSION FLIGHT
The drone can fly automatically following the flight plan by using RTK for positioning. During the auto inspection process, the images will send back to the control center from the drone. By applying drone inspection solution for the powerline, the accuracy and efficiency of inspection are improved massively.


· DATA ANALYSIS
Once the inspection is finished, the drone operator can proceed the pictures collection, images uploading, defects analysis, and report generation. Then it can submit a summarized line inspection report for the grid operator.

Missing parts of the tower, loose bolts, loss of the number plate, the nest, the ice, the fallen tower, electricity transmission lines, etc.
The deformed and broken wire, and the attrition between the equalizer ring bars, the burn fault created by the current problem, the overheated pressure adaptor tube, and the foreign bodies, etc.
Flash marks, ice coating, electric current burn, self-explosion, fouling, core rod exposure, damp heat, abnormal discharge, low value, zero value, etc.
